                                                    Amy tan two halves
Amy tan two halves this short story is about a little girl who has her whole childhood managed by her mother. This story was written in 1989 and took place in Sanfrancisco in a town called Chinatown. Amy tan is a Chinese American girl trying to make her own decisions and doing what makes her happy. However, her mother forced her into taking piano lessons. Later on, she played in events and was practicing on a daily basis. Her mother an immigrant housekeeper saved enough money to buy Amy her own piano. While receiving piano lessons in exchange of her mothers work, Amy tan at time would slack off during piano lessons, because it was something she didn’t want to do. During one of Amy tans event something bad occurred the audience seemed not to like Amy tans music by the way they reacted some of her family members seemed not to care while the rest didn’t applaud. Which led Amy to confront her mother. Amy unsure of what her mother was going to tell her the next day, decided it was time to stand up for herself it was 4oclock the time Amy usually has piano lessons and her mother went into Amy’s room to remind her about her piano lessons. Amy surprised by her mother’s response said she wasn’t going to play the piano anymore and caused a big argument between them.  From that moment on Amy had all the liberty she desired. Her mother stopped telling Amy what to do and let Amy live her life. Years later her mother passed away and gave Amy her piano as a gift letting Amy know she was sorry for forcing her into doing something she didn’t want to do. Amy accepted the piano also letting her mother know she forgave her. Amy later realized that her mother wasn’t a bad person and that all she wanted was for Amy to be happy. Amy eventually fixed the piano and later starts playing bringing back a lot of good and bad memories of her childhood.
